Sparks Group is founded as Sparks Personnel in 1970

1970


Company is founded by John and Joan Sparks as Sparks Personnel, a placement agency, serving companies and job seekers in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Only two years later and in response to the growth of the contingent staffing market, the company opened its administrative temporary staffing practice. To date, the company has placed over 100,000 professionals in administrative support, clerical, and customer support positions.

Sparks Group has provided security clearance recruiting services since 1972

1972


Sparks Personnel earns its facility security clearance from the U.S. Department of Defense. To date, the company has placed thousands of security-cleared professionals, up to the top-secret level, with our clients that require contingent staff in security-cleared areas.

Sparks Group is a leading staffing and recruiting services provider in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC, North Carolina, and beyond

Citing rapid growth and a need to better serve private and public sector organizations and job seekers in the area, Sparks Personnel expands its branch network by opening its first Northern Virginia office. The company would open numerous locations in the following years throughout Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC, North Carolina, and beyond.

Steve Sparks, Owner and Chief Executive Officer

1984


Company is purchased by Steve Sparks, who has served as Owner and Chief Executive Officer ever since.

Sparks Group provides job seekers with free skills enhancement training.

1985


Company begins offering free training to employees and job seekers to enhance their software and other job-related skills. Software and skills enhancement training are still offered to all employees today.

1992


Sparks Personnel implements our first applicant tracking system (ATS) technology. Over the years, our company has developed and implemented a number of in-house and commercial products and solutions to deliver better talent, faster to our client partners. Today our robust talent database contains the resumes of over 50,000 qualified professionals ready to be deployed to our client sites, nationally. 

Sparks Group offers resource management solutions

Establishes our first on-site managed service program at a client’s facility; this service line was implemented at numerous large call centers, growing tech companies, and other organizations with high volumes of contingent staff.

2000


Establishes Accounting and Finance staffing and recruiting group, specializing in the placement of professionals for positions such as accounting, finance, financial services, contracts, acquisitions and procurement, grants, and more.

Since 2001, Sparks Group has provided IT staffing services for architecture, cyber-security, software development and more.

2001


Sparks Personnel acquires a small Information Technology staffing and recruiting group, expanding our capabilities to match IT talent to our clients’ growing technical requirements. To this day, the company is regularly honored as one the top IT staffing agencies in the U.S. and excels at placing technical talent across an extensive range of domains including: system architecture, cybersecurity, software development, business analysis, project management, and more.

Establishes Creative and Marketing staffing and recruiting group, matching talented marketing, design, and other creative professionals with top organizations.

Company announces rebranding to Sparks Group

2016


Company formally announces rebranding to Sparks Group to fully highlight our expanded range of capabilities and the value we deliver our clients across multiple disciplines and across all industries to meet their current and long-term staffing needs. Today, Sparks Group is comprised of four staffing divisions, each comprised of account managers and recruiters that are specialized in their field.
